Prescriptions for Generic Viagra Increase

Friday, Mayor pharmaceutical companies revealed that it has withdrawn the application to convert generic Viagra 50 mg to non-prescription status in the European Union from the present prescription only status. The firm said that the decision was taken considering certain comments and concerns from Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use, or CHMP. The European company noted that generic Viagra, an oral medication for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, and all current doses of generic Viagra would continue to be available to patients by prescription from their doctor.

Big companies believed that drug candidate generic Viagra 50 mg is suitable for non-prescription supply through pharmacists in the EU, bypassing the European Commission Guideline for non-prescription status conversion. However, in a publication to the European Medicines Agency, they  said that it has decided to withdraw the application in order to fully consider comments from the European Medicines Agency CHMP, recognizing that there were some concerns regarding the proposed supply of generic Viagra 50 mg tablets without a prescription in the European Union or EU.

Considering the real fact that about 35 million men worldwide use generic Viagra, the companies believe that access to Viagra 50 mg without a prescription in a pharmacy setting in the EU would benefit male patients suffering from erectile dysfunction. The CHMP agency noted that when generic Viagra is used in accordance with the currently approved prescribing information, its safety profile remains favorable. Quitting the application would enable evaluation of further information and additional data that may be required to allow any future assessments under the centralized procedure.
