Oxcarbazepine is a safe drug when used as directed but it does have several side effects which include lethargy, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, difficulty sleeping, lack of concentration, dry mouth, headache, cough, acne and constipation. Most of these side effects subside with time, but if they persist one should notify their doctor immediately.
In very rare cases, Oxcarbazepine can also cause mood changes, irregular heart rate, depression, muscle and joint pan, slurred speech, abnormal body movements, difficulty with gait, suicidal thoughts and headaches. These side effects usually occur with high doses and one should seek medical attention if the effects persist. In order to avoid side effects from this medication, one should refrain from using alcohol or illicit drugs at the same time. It is highly recommended that individuals who take Oxcarbazepine not combine other pharmaceutical drugs unless approved by their local doctor.
