There is a general consensus that sex is good for one’s health. Not only can you burn calories through sex but you can also improve your blood circulation and the overall functioning of the circulatory system. As you probably know, sex was and still is considered beneficial for the heart for a number of different reasons. Yet, recent studies suggest that sex is not only beneficial for the heart and circulatory system but also for one’s intelligence. Here’s how sex affects the brain.

We all love sex; no secrets there. Since only humans and dolphins have sex for pleasure and not just for reproduction purposes, side effects and benefits are worth investigating. But more and more, specialists nowadays claim there is more to sex than pleasure (although this is the primary effect expected from it). Some of the most common benefits humans get from sex include stress relief by lowering blood pressure. Sex also improves one’s immune system; sex, once or twice a week, can have a great positive impact on one’s immunity. Moreover, by having sex you can burn calories. It has been estimated that in half an hour of sex you can burn up to 90 calories. Also, closely related to this issue, it seems that people who have sex have an increased self-esteem and an improved intimacy. Nonetheless, because the levels of oxytocin increase within the brain, the pain is alleviated which means that sex also reduces pain. In men, a fulfilling sexual life has been associated with a reduced prostate cancer risk. And last but not least, sex makes you smarter.

A recent study in rats did prove sex smarts. A group of experts from Princeton discovered sexually active rats are less anxious than virgins. After carrying on with the study, scientists can now say that sex makes the cells of the brain grow. This translates into sexually active beings getting smarter. The experiment is based on the findings of past studies which revealed that stress can stifle the brain cell growth in humans. The experts from Princeton wanted to see if pleasant experiences can have the opposite effect on the brain cells and thus they studied this effect on rats. They compared the blood levels of stress hormones and the proliferation of brain cells from sexually active rats and virgin rats. The conclusion was wonderful: sex does make rats smarter. Does that mean humans grow smarter brains from sex too? What a great excuse – if you ever needed one. Though tons of couples out there would tell you there is no need for excuses to spend some of the most amazing 10 minutes of their lives, I say hurray for sex! One more great reason to purchase generic Viagra tonight.
