An Honest Man
To lie or not to lie? The Shakespearean question remains. As children, our parents told us that lying is a bad thing to do and that the truth will come out eventually. As adults, we are trying to figure out when to lie and when not to because we all know small lies are sometimes better than telling the truth. So, is being totally and completely honest the best solution in any circumstance? In what circumstances should we tell white lies? Read on and find out what to do in this sort of situations.
Lying can get us out of an uncomfortable and undesirable situation. But lying is not always the best solution and in some cases it can even worsen an already grim situation. One should try telling the truth as often as possible. The first risk you expose yourself to when lying is getting caught, and once caught you may become “the liar” no one trusts. However, telling white lies seems more easily forgiven than telling fat lies. By doing so, you risk to lose all the hard work you have been doing up to the point you get caught.
Honesty may be the easiest and safest way to get out from an uncomfortable situation. Although the truth may hurt sometimes, some consider it a more viable option than lying. And that is because in the end, there is a chance the person who gets the news will eventually appreciate you not lying to them and eventually forgiving you for whatever mess you got yourself into. Judgment depends on each particular situation, though. This case scenario fits best with people that are not regularly a part of your life. For instance, telling the truth to your boss may be highly appreciated; a mistake that is admitted sooner can be fixed faster, for example. And truth being told, everybody makes mistakes, so why lie about them?
When it comes to relationships, lying can become quite complicate. Take lying to our girlfriends or wives or being always honest to them? From our life experience, telling harmless lies to our life partners can positively impact a relationship. As we all know, sometimes women prefer not knowing the truth, especially if the truth could hurt them. And then again, we must make a clear difference between what we can and cannot lie about. For instance, you might lie about forgetting to water her plants but you may want to consider your choice in more important situations such as cheating – a true downer worth a few generic Viagra pills if it were the other way around.
White lies are allegedly harmless lies most people consider do not hurt anyone. These tiny manipulations and omissions of truth are often believed even necessary, depending on the circumstances they can be told.
