Dandruff: Skin Gone Wrong
While, as men, we can all appreciate a nice flash of flesh in the buff, there is a side to skin we are not so fond of and are likely to get rid of ASAP. I am talking about dandruff. If you ever had it, you dread it. If you haven’t, not only do you secretly ridicule those who do but you are also scared s$%less about getting it. Even when dandruff is not as serious as an STD, you would think it causes worse symptoms due to the way people react to Snow Whites in society. Sorry, that was mean.
Experts agree, however. People with dandruff problems often report feeling embarrassed about their condition and suffer from low self-esteem and extreme fear of closeness. Of course, they don’t want to be close enough to someone as to not disclose their weather forecast of heavy snows day long. Nothing drives away people like dandruff. Sadly, lots of men suffering from scaling heads are also the same men suffering from severe cases of greasy and unkempt hair. Of course, not all of them are; but some. And it is not necessarily their fault. Research and experts say extreme production of greasy tissue (in the head) causes scalps to scale. Combine greasy heads with sticky hair and you have come up with the least appealing curtain of studded hair locks. No one is running their fingers through that.
Even with erection problems, I don’t think I’d be half as embarrassed about getting generic Viagra as I would be about getting anti-dandruff shampoo. Seems stupid and superficial, I know. But erectile dysfunction you can ignore for a while and keep it a secret for longer periods of time (even when this means you are not getting in contact with the opposite sex); dandruff, you cannot. Dandruff is there; it is even more there when you have dark colored hair. If you are a Caucasian man with blond hair and wear white shirts, you are safe. Just avoid propping your head against anything dark or wearing navy blue and gray coal button shirts and t-shirts. But even so, work and Saturday night dates are likely to require a suit or at least a cool jacket. Darn it, dandruff is relentless. Now picture all of this but having black hair instead. Black makes white pop. And what color is dandruff? Right…
Now to the solutions. Since you can’t wear white the rest of your life and resemble a crazy God impersonator or a really tacky latin man, the pharmaceutical industry as well as the naturistic have come up with some hair products you can use. The most well-known are anti-dandruff shampoos and gels. Head & Shoulders and Selsun are two of the most known commercial supermarket brands. Following these there’s OTC medicated shampoos like Neutrogena’s T-Gel, only to culminate with the big guns: prescription ointments. Whatever your case may be, most dandruff remedies usually require patience and versatility. Most products take a few weeks kicking in, and as you will soon find out, the effects are not very long lasting. Sadly, anti-dandruff products run out on effectiveness quite fast, making it necessary to go back on the quest for a new anti-dandruff shampoo. My best advice, consult with dermatologists and doctors first. Some products might make your condition worse.
