Generic Viagra Ends Jet Lag
We all know what Viagra is but are we also aware of its alternative “powers”? As you probably know by now, Viagra is the best medication that can improve men’s sexual lives, if they suffer from erectile dysfunction. But the generic Viagra name hides much more interesting stuff. For instance, did you know that generic Viagra ends jet lag? Read more about this wonder pill and everything it can do for you.
The active ingredient of Viagra, sildenafil citrate, is what stays behind all the wonders this drug can do. Sildenafil was firstly developed and marketed by Pfizer, a pharmaceutical company and it was always claimed the medication was able to help men who suffer from male impotence. It first became available in 1998 and it works by regulating the blood flow to the penis. According to the millions of users worldwide, Viagra does indeed work against this medical condition. However, its reach does not stop there. Sildenafil is also used to treat pulmonary hypertension, a rare medical condition which can be deadly for the sufferer. Moreover, this substance proved to be efficient in preventing altitude sickness and helpful for sportsmen as it enhances their muscular performance.
More recently, the same substance that makes Viagra one of the most known pills on Earth, was shown to be helpful in ending jet lag. Three Argentineans, Patricia Agostino, Santiago Plano and Diego Golombek, received a Nobel Prize in 2007 for showing that jet lag can be significantly improved by sildenafil. These three scientists came up with an experiment that took place at Universidad Nacional de Quilmes in Buenos Aires. The experiment carried on in Argentina tested the reaction of male hamsters to jet lag after being injected with sildenafil, aka generic Viagra. These hamsters together with a group of rodents who did not receive the medication received a flight stimulation of 15 minutes.
By comparing the results of the test in both groups of hamsters, the scientists discovered that the rodents that were injected with sildenafil were able to adjust their internal clocks by six hours in half the time it took the other group of hamsters to do the same thing. Although it has been shown that humans and mammals have similar daily cycles which means that this should also work in humans, the Argentineans advise not to take Viagra to fight jet lag. However, more clinical trials are to follow in order to establish whether this medication is as safe and effective in humans as it was in hamsters. The same experiment showed that sildenafil adjusts internal clock of hamsters only when traveling eastwards. Otherwise the drug just does not work.
In the end, scientific research reveals so many other effects that Viagra may have on male individuals. And even though this latest experiment is providing you with a good way to fight jet lag, do not use it for this purpose until it has been proven to be safe.
