Generic Viagra is a medication that is used for the relief of erectile dysfunction in males. In some patients, generic Viagra may also be used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension. No matter what the medication is being used for, the patient should never feel ashamed. People from all walks of life and statuses, people from movie stars to the people seen every day, use generic Viagra to treat their problems. The first step, however, is for the patient to admit that a problem exists. Once this is acknowledged, a doctor can be visited to get a prescription for generic Viagra. It is important for the patient not to be embarrassed about the issue or about the need for the medicine. Patients should keep in mind that generic Viagra is one of the most oft-prescribed drugs and that the doctor sees tons of patients suffering from erectile dysfunction every day.

Once the male is able to discuss his need for generic Viagra, the doctor will have to perform certain tests and find out some information from the patient. The patient should tell the doctor of any medication allergies and of any medications currently being used. Discussing medications that have recently been used, especially if they include nitrates, is also important.

Other drugs to discuss include alpha blockers, antifungals, blood thinners, barbiturates, beta blockers, other medications to treat erectile dysfunction, St. John’s Wort or other herbal medications, hypertension medication, and seizure medication. These may all negatively interact with generic Viagra. Taking one of these does not always mean a patient will not be able to use generic Viagra, but he may require it in a special dose. Patients who smoke or who have recently been dehydrated, often due to being ill, should discuss generic Viagra risk factors and possible complications with their doctors. It is also important to tell a doctor if the patient has ever suffered from or currently suffers from pulmonary veno-occlusive disease, stomach ulcers, heart disease, heart attack, heart irregularities, kidney disease, liver disease, stroke, high blood pressure or hypertension, low blood pressure, high cholesterol, any bleeding disorder or blood problem, diabetes, eye disease or vision loss, and any condition that has an effect on penis shape.

In some rare cases, women will be prescribed generic Viagra. This is usually when no other treatment is available for a female’s pulmonary arterial hypertension. Women using generic Viagra will need to practice safe sex in order to avoid pregnancy, as becoming pregnant while taking this medication can be dangerous for both the mother and the fetus. Women using generic Viagra should also avoid breast feeding. Males using the medication for either reason must tell their doctors if they have ever had to discontinue sexual activity due to the state of their health.

Once all of these has been considered, only then can a patient, male or female, safely begin using this medication. All patients should follow dosing and usage instructions as given by a doctor. The doctor’s advice should always be taken over anything that is written on a pill label or bottle. Doing so will increase safety and will make it much safer and easier to effectively use generic Viagra.
