Generic Viagra is a well known treatment for erectile dysfunction. Its efficacy and popularity is merely based on its amazing capability to expand the blood vessels, therefore improving the blood flow to specific organs. In the case of erectile dysfunction, this extra blood flow helps all the spongy tissues on the penis to fill with blood, therefore causing an erection. However, sometimes the penis is not the only organ that needs an extra blood flow, take the lungs for example. Recent studies have shown that generic Viagra is also beneficial for patients suffering from pulmonary edema and related conditions. This has been a great advance, since until generic Viagra arrived, the efficacy of pulmonary vasodilators therapies was very limited, this due in part to the lack of potency of pulmonary vasodilator agents.

However, it was recently proven that generic Viagra, also know as Sildenafil Citrate, was effective as a treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension (extremely high pressure in the artery carrying blood to the lungs). This condition affects an estimated of 100,000 people on the United States and Europe alone, and it has devastating effects on the patient’s lifestyle. But how does generic Viagra help? Well, the same vasodilator effect that we previously mentioned does the work. How does it work? Simply by expanding the arteries, relieving some of the pressure and allowing a proper blood flow.

Some of the clinical trials that were done involved about 280 patients, who received one of three doses of generic Viagra or a placebo pill three times a day for 12 weeks. In that period of time, those who had been receiving generic Viagra could walk 45 to 50 meters farther in six minutes than those who received the placebo treatment. This study not only showed that it reduced pressure in the artery feeding the lungs, but it also improved the patient’s resistance.

Generic Viagra has also been proven to be an effective treatment for pulmonary fibrosis (an idiopathic disease that causes the lungs to become thicker and stiff, eventually reducing the ability to breath). Before generic Viagra arrived, there was no proven therapy, except for lung transplantation, which survival rate is quite limited. There are approximately 5 million people worldwide suffering from this condition, 150,000 are on the United States only. In the case of pulmonary fibrosis, generic Viagra works by expanding the blood vessels, often constricted by the scarring tissue.

So, now you know that generic Viagra is more than what it first looks like. It not only helps thousands of men to revitalize their sexual life, but it can also mean the difference between life and death for patients suffering from lung conditions.
