Porn Addiction in Men

Even when porn addiction is not yet officially considered a mental disorder, it certainly is very much present and taking over millions of people around the world. With Internet came a broader and easier access window to what once started of as pay per view and subscription services. However, the reality of Internet porn today is a different one. With access to anything from wives to generic Viagra, it comes as no surprise the easy distribution millions of free porn sites available on the world wide web provide. Accessibility to and variety and intensity of porn have simply become too handy. Hence, the problem.
Because porn used to be of limited access and difficult to find and purchase, the age and social group to which it was truly available was relatively reduced and accurately discernible. Going in a XXX video store or purchasing an issue of a reduced edition of porno magazine might have been more frowned upon in years past; yet today, most men’s laptops are practically expected to hold a porn folder packed with snap shots and videos of most visited and popular Internet sites of the so-called erotica genre.
But today, getting your hands on some porn is easier than breathing. Internet access availability, easier access to computer equipment and a more permissive society have made room large enough for the pornographic industry to sit large and comfy among people of all ages and genders. Children as young as ten years old are known to have porn or have viewed porn at this age, a sign of how the habit starts at such an early age. Combined with children’s easy access to laptops and portable Internet access devices, modern day family circles and routines have little chance of stopping what could eventually turn into a porn addiction in small children.
Late hours at work make it difficult for parents to be more on top of what their children see on the web; devices like PSPs and cellphones are on-the-go access windows to pornographic sites as well as sexual offenders. As with children, teenagers also have easy access to porn. Actually, teenage boys are even closer to Internet porn. Less parental control and more rebellious behavior allow for male teenagers to take a deeper, more rooted interest in search and viewing practices. Raging hormones and a need to satisfy otherwise normal sexual needs pertinent to age, turn into a more perverted vision of sex and even perhaps women.
As these teens grow older, the daily habit can scale into monstrous proportions. As with any other medically diagnose addiction, porn addiction also escalates in intensity and deviance of the content. Once watching softer porn could perhaps satisfy a man’s need for sexual stimulation, but after a while the variations in the intensity of porn rating will need to increase in deviance and become more hard core and perverted. Just like a drug addict begins with a softer drug and escalates into heavier, more powerful stuff to maintain a certain high, porn addicts look for more extreme and unusual pornographic material to do exactly the same.
As with alcoholics several organized groups – religious, specially – have come together to form an alliance against this type of addiction, said to be a possible cause for deviant behavior in real life by mentally unbalanced patients. Either support groups or partners can help, as with other addictions, to overcome this social evil. Not all men are genetically pre-wired to become porn addicts, but fixations to a certain extent need to be watched closely and carefully in case such a case does develop.
