For the past decade, generic Viagra has become the best and most effective treatment against erectile dysfunction. Its efficacy has been confirmed by multiple studies, all of them affirming that generic Viagra is the best treatment of its kind, specially for middle aged men suffering from ED. However, its benefits are not limited to the mentioned above, for instance, it has been shown that the intake of generic Viagra on middle aged men not only improved their sexual performance, but also diminished the risk of related conditions like prostate cancer, depression and diabetes. Erectile Dysfunction normally co-exists with other health conditions like diabetes, cholesterol, hypertension and even depression, and it has also been proven that the intake of generic Viagra can be beneficial for these conditions.

About 20,000 new cases of erectile dysfunction are diagnosed every day on the United States only, and over 40% of these cases are of war veterans. Now, since generic Viagra is often not affordable for most of these veterans, the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) has done its work and included generic Viagra on its formulary of drugs that must be available at its medical treatment facilities. Veterans affair ha offered veterans an extensive range of treatments for erectile dysfunction while assessing new approaches. However, when Viagra was first released to the market its price would have had a crippling effect on VA’S pharmaceutical budget, that’s why brand name Viagra wasn’t included when it was released. VA was also worried about the potential safety issues pertinent to VA’s patient population, mainly because generic Viagra may not interact very well with several medications (some medications used to treat heart conditions for example) that were used to treat medical problems often experienced by the patients VA treats.

Things have luckily changed since then. Once generic Viagra was released to the market, its lower cost made it possible for the Veterans Affairs department to include it on its budget. They also considered many pleas that claimed that thousands of veterans who couldn’t afford it were having enormous consequences, both physical and emotional, and it was their right to receive medications for a valid health problem such as erectile dysfunction. It is estimated that only in 2009, 310,000 veterans got generic Viagra as part of their VA pharmacy benefits, that’s about 7.7% of all the veterans with pharmacy benefits.

But this benefit came with a price. In some states like Tennessee, veterans had to quit smoking cessation classes in order to receive generic Viagra from the VA department. This measure was established because it has been shown that smoking can contribute to erectile dysfunction. However, a couple of years ago this measure started to be optional rather than required. Now the national guidelines for generic Viagra state that all the veterans (whether they smoke or not) who need the drug should get four doses per month. However, if you are on the group of veterans that don’t receive the benefits of generic Viagra, there are easy ways to buy it online, normally at cheaper prices.
