If you never heard of testicular torsion, like me, you probably made a sour face and instinctively grabbed your crotch area. The idea of having your testicles twisted over can cause a painful imagery to any man alive. After all, testicles are one of the most exposed and delicate parts of the male body. That is why we keep them safe in fashionable and tights boxer briefs these days. So, how is it that testicles can get tangled up and twisted around? How much pain is that!
Your testicles are attached to the rest of your body by a very thin and elastic sack of skin. What this sack of skin does is provide a canal for different nerve endings and much needed veins, vessels and arteries to go from point A to point B. When testicle torsion takes place and this whole conglomerate of bodily components turn into a very unnatural position, all of those conductors too get twisted and turned. By twisting, all fluids passing through these are cut off, hence compromising the overall function and existence of testicles.
Testicular torsion, however, is likelier to happen in males ages 13 to 18, and overall to those under thirty. While testicular torsion can even happen to babies, most cases of this painful condition take place due to a deformity in the testicular area called bell clapper deformity. This deformity allows testicles to hand more loosely; therefore, allowing the testicular torsion to take place more easily. Likely to be present in both testicles in men who have bell clapper deformity, this physical disadvantage cannot be detected.
Severe pain on one side of the testicular sack, swelling, testicular elevation due to twisting, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain are some of the symptoms that might hint something wrong has happened in your nether region. In order to save your testicular function, it is imperative that you seek medical attention immediately. Having your torsion situation checked 24 hours after the incident could mean having to get your buddies chopped off due to lack of blood supply an such. And you thought having to take a male enhance like generic Viagra was bad!
Doctors strongly advice against treating testicular pain at home, for it can only result in the loss of the testicles. The only true way of treating torsed testicles is through surgery and in very few cases manual untwisting of the affected area. However, the manual procedure is seldom effective and should only be practiced by a specialist. The ultimate goal of having surgery is saving the testicles. Otherwise an extirpation of said organs would be in order. In the cases in which testicles can be saved, these are permanently attached to the scrotum so future twisting cannot take place.
