Viagra is one of the most efficient medications there is to fight erectile dysfunction and definitely the most popular one in the market today. Although this drug can only be obtained with a prescription, the company manufacturing chose a strong marketing campaign to promote it among men of a certain age who would need help in this matter. The TV appearances of Viagra made it possible for the product’s popularity to skyrocket and encouraged men to go see their GPs about ED. No matter what angle you look at the Viagra marketing campaign from, it is obvious its success was a product of a very clever approach. An indirect type of marketing campaign of Viagra results from the funny jokes made about it in the comedy shows. Several popular TV shows take advantage of the stigma that has been associated to the famous Blue Pill and include it in some of their episodes. For instance, one episode from Two and a Half Men includes a scene depicting the birthday party of a teenager who, feeling too tired, drinks some coffee and takes a couple of “vitamins” from his dad’s medicine cabinet. Then, after the medicine starts working, the kid hides in the bathroom, refusing to come out, no wonder why. As soon as everybody gathers around the bathroom’s door asking the kid what is wrong he starts telling them about the little blue vitamins with a “V” engraved on them that he found in his dad’s cabinet. While the kid shares his story, completely unaware of what he just did, his dad starts getting all embarrassed realizing that everybody in the room now knows about his pills, which were no vitamins. Such an appearance of Viagra on TV show is subtle and makes the medication appears accessible and funny. These naïve incidents not only serve as a good quality joke for the viewers of the series but also have a positive impact on generic Viagra awareness.

There are many other examples of different TV shows that feature a funny incident related to Viagra use. However, it is most likely that Viagra will appear in these shows rather in a funny, satiric way than in a serious, sober circumstance. Mad About You, another popular TV series portrayed Viagra as well. In this case, one of the main characters brings his friend a bottle of the medication. They are both men in their 30′s or 40′s. Although they both claim having no problems in the bedroom department, one of them, Paul, takes it. He refused in the first place but after his girlfriend encourages him to take it, although subtle, he does so but not without mocking the effects of the pill. Later on, the effects kick in while Paul is hanging a painting according to the instructions of his mother. After a while, the side effects start to occur and Paul pretends to see everything in blue.

There is no doubt that Viagra, due to its medical effects and its popularity will continue to be portrayed as a funny subject.
