Unacceptable Public Displays Of Affection

Showing love and affection is human nature and considered acceptable; at least to a given extent. The society in which we live is quite permissive when it comes to the public display of love within the couple. But there is a point when couples exaggerate their displays of love in public. There are some rules that must be followed when going out on the street, restaurants or clubs as a couple. We usually accept the image of couples who are holding hands or innocently kiss on the street, while riding public transportation or at the park. Generally, such behavior is considered normal and mostly accepted as long as the action does not get on the verge of R rated content. Some couples are capable of showing each other love and their feelings without sharing their intimate moments with those around them. A certain level of maturity is required and although couples rarely cross the line in this matter, we can always see some individuals who seem to have no problem in sharing their intimacies with the rest of us. And if this is not disturbing for them, it can certainly be for the rest of us.

Rule of thumb states there are certain things we do as couples that are just plain icky. For instance babying your girlfriend. Too much of a good thing can turn awkward for those around you. Babying, regardless of the receiving end, one bad habit many couples have that can make a situation uncomfortable in seconds. While women are more expected to baby their partners, perhaps out of maternal instinct, men are often looked down at for babying their girlfriends in public. Either way, it makes most of us want to puke.

Calling your girlfriend pet names is another thing you may want to avoid in public. It seems however that many individuals use pet names to refer to their partners, but we think this is okay, as long as pet names are kept private. Pet names used in public to refer to your girlfriend may be cute for you, but odds are they are disturbing for the rest. You would not want to share a “cuddle bear & sugar cup” episode with people passing by.

Love is a great word and should be used to describe the most intense feelings one can develop for a partner. But when is it right to use the L word? Declarations of love are the main way through which romantic guys talk about their feelings to the person they are willing to share their life with. But once again, they are intimate and the entire moment may be spoiled if declarations are made at the wrong time and in the wrong place.

Over the top, public displays of affection are unacceptable to outsiders that witness your mushiness. Like sporting a generic Viagra boner outside the bedroom, your partner may also feel like you are attempting to share too much with the rest of the world with these public displays of affection.
