Since the beginning of time, men have occupied the most important positions in the society. In more traditional and patriarchal societies, they are expected to be the ones who bring money in the household. Men are supposed to solve the most difficult problems and are perceived as the strong figures of the family – the ones with the answers to everything. Solving complex issues has always been a job undertaken by men. However, as society has changed, fierce competition from women to occupy higher rankings has increased. For years and years men have taken for granted the best spots in society and especially within their work places. With women climbing all sorts of ladders, claiming gender equality, why do men continue to rule?

Despite all the feminist favoring actions, the presence of men in most important structures of the society is withstanding. Male leadership is still more appreciated, even when women have proven able to perform the same duties with outstanding results. One of the simplest reasons why men appear to be needed so much in society is they outnumber women. It is estimated that for every 100 girls born, maternity rooms welcome 107 boys. Most women comply with the unwritten rules of society and let men undertake these great responsibilities. While the stay-at-home wife raising children while her man works stereotype is no longer applicable at large in today’s society, a dominance-submission relation remains embedded in our collective thread of thought.

The egalitarian movement led by business women claims women’s right to equality and are willing to get what can be theirs as well: leadership. Men, however, seem to be keeping their power positions although the competition is becoming stronger and stronger. Chauvinistic for some, men are still preferred in leading positions.

Even in the face of a more gender equality oriented society, men’s ever growing control over most power positions. Up to date, men continue to create more wealth than powerful dominant women. Only a small percentage of the world’s millionaires are women, while the rest of the fortune are taken over by men. Politically, major roles are 1 to 5 against women. Though our very changing world is slowly making traditionally male trades like mining and construction disappear, new ones are being created. All things renewable are giving new generations of men a fresh launching pad into power positions around the globe.

Even with higher unemployment rates in the US concerning men, these continue to be a larger work force than women, in terms of those currently employed. However, numbers should not mean one gender or the other should remain owner to all power. One’s success should not mean the other’s failure; on the contrary, a balance point could be setting up in the horizon of man kind. In the mean time, more power to you guys.
