How to deal with PMS?

For women, premenstrual syndrome can be a recurring problem, with pain, cramps, and rapidly changing moods showing up about once a month. However, there are ways that a woman can take control of her PMS and steps that can be taken to prevent the common condition from inhibiting normal life. In order to get relief from PMS, a woman will need to learn the following tips and tricks that can be used to lessen the effects experienced during this time.
One age old remedy for cutting down the bloating that is normally part of this time is to reduce the amount of salt, or sodium, that is ingested. The body’s natural reaction is to hold this sodium as possible nutrition for a fertilized egg. Therefore, the correct response is to stop eating high sodium foods, such as potato chips, one or two days before the period is scheduled to start.
To lessen or completely eliminate the mood swings that are frequent symptoms of PMS, most experts point to exercise as the solution. Yoga, normal physical exercise, and taking daily walks are all excellent ways to balance hormone levels and take mood swings out of the equation. Of these, yoga may be the most complete, combining physical movement with relaxation techniques that are designed to reduce the amount of stress in a woman’s life.
Another dietary tip that can play a part in reducing PMS strain is to eat more dairy and be aware of vitamin D intake. Bumping up calcium intake during the monthly cycle can eliminate the tiredness and food cravings that appear. With dairy foods like milk and cheese being excellent sources of calcium and vitamin D, this may be the time to indulge in more dairy-based foods. For women that have issues with lactose, supplements can be taken that will produce the same effect.
