Erectile dysfunction becomes a common problem among men aged 40 to 70. Although sexual dysfunction tends to become more common in men reaching a certain age, younger individuals can also be affected. The incidence of erectile dysfunction increases with the age. This condition can range in severity from mild to severe and according to its cause, it may or it may not be treated. In most cases, erectile dysfunction has a cure as soon as the patient admits to its existence and decides to ask for help, leaving aside their psychological issues behind.

Testosterone used to be believed to play a great role in the development of erectile dysfunction, although recently it has been discovered that testosterone levels are not an accurate reflection of sexual drive or erection. Moreover, it is estimated that only approximately 5% of men who go to a doctor concerning problems with erections have low levels of testosterone. And yet, what is the connection between testosterone and erections?

Maybe the main reason why testosterone is associated with erectile issues is because it is the male hormone. And hormones do play an important role in any sexual matter. Not in this one, though. Moreover, testosterone is associated with masculinity and very “manly” men seem to not need help in bed, ever. Whereas regular individuals consider that taking generic Viagra may be the solution to their problem, some seem to walk a different road. A very well trained musculature has always been in people’s minds associated with high levels of testosterone and great potency in bed. And still, big arms and great abs have nothing to do with this issues.

Let’s take the example of some celebrities that are thought as least likely to ever take Viagra or any other such supplement. Sylvester Stallone or Chuck Norris, they both look “too manly” and therefore they would not need any type of ED supplements. Steven Seagal and Arnold Schwarzenegger also make the list of manly men stereotypes pop culture has created. These images of men who seem overly potent and who could make your average Joe feel like dust when it comes to masculinity have long been perpetuated by the cinema industry and gratuitous celebrities. The truth is the stereotype has nothing to do with their levels of testosterone. The muscles are just muscles and although they may be very appealing to ladies, that does not mean they are not experiencing problems in the bedroom. Erectile dysfunction is a condition that can affect any person, no matter how muscular they are.

Erectile dysfunction is often a forbidden subject in men’s world and it comes as no surprise that many men do not even want to talk about ED or admit to such a condition. It is important to point out that a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular exercising, could help men delay this kind of situation. Then again, ED seems as inevitable as hairloss, becoming senile or getting all wrinkled up. Take them as they come boys!
