Redheaded Crazy?
Teased or admired, red heads have been through it all. Having been cataloged as the ranging kind or the lustiest in behavior, red heads, carrot top or ginger, no matter what you call this singular group, they are sure to call people’s attention, good or bad. From well-structured organizations to aggressive cultural movements against them, red heads have experienced a cultural revolution throughout time. But are freckled-faced red heads really at a disadvantage in regards to other hair-colored people, health-wise? Let’s find out.
Red heads have been historically known for taking high places of great power, mostly royalty. By being incredibly public figures, direct personal attacks and threats to their lives, red headed royalty was constantly in the eye of many. From food poisoning to treason, the red-headed king or queen might have been closer to death than they would have like to admit.
History aside, researchers and genetists have found red heads are also more likely to have really fair and freckled skin. In a day and age where the sun can too be our worst enemy and a thinning ozone layer gradually disappearing, those faired skin are at a more direct risk of suffering from skin conditions, including sun burn, more visible age spots, cancerous growth and melanoma. Yes, blonds might be in a similar scenario too, but carrot tops are certainly not friends with the Morning Lord.
Not being able to more calmly lie in the sun or enjoy the outdoors worry-free of the more immediate and long-term harms of good old Sun, red heads are seldom likely to carry out outdoorsy activities, secluded to the more tranquil whereabouts of the home and shelter. Perhaps, this need to guard themselves from harsh weather has made them the fiery legends they are said to be in the enclosed privacy of the bedroom. Because of their hair color, red heads do have the upper hand of being said to perform wonderfully and wildly in bed. Perhaps generic Viagra should have been tinged a reddish orange instead of ice-cold blue!
But being good in bed is not the only thing red heads are known for throughout history. Combined with supposedly insatiable sex drives, red heads have also been known to display somewhat of a temper. Multiple references in world literature speak of red hair as fire. This direct reference to such a lively element of nature also puts in evidence the wild nature of those sporting a flaming set of red hair. And fiery stands not only for relentless and alive, but also for aggressive and violent. After all, what are the Irish known for if not for their endless drinking skills and red bearded tempers?
Socially, red heads are not exempt from persecution. A recent phenomenon over a Facebook group inspired by a famous cartoon show lead thousands to Kick a Ginger, on the group’s self-pronounced day for such activity. As well as admired by its rare beauty, there are those who outcast red heads for the way they look, as others have done so due to skin color and the like. Strange as it may sound, hair too can become a social obstacle for some. As blond hair has been stigmatized for a lack of brains, red heads have also suffered their share of hatred from square-thinking crowds that alienate them for the way they look.
