Sweat baby, sweat!
Reminiscing about my yesteryears I couldn’t seem to get Sweaty Steve off of my head. One of the worst memories I have is of him. Steve was a high school classmate of mine back in the day who had this immense sweat problem. Besides being a nervous, geeky sweating teen, Stevey I’m sure had a gland problem. He was, in a word, damp. Always. Summer time was his worst. He would walk from one class to the next only to end up in a sweat pool. Explaining how badly he was teased I’m sure is not even necessary. Sweaty Steve had moist problems, and bad ones.
High school went by and sweaty Stevey became just a memory. Or did he? My college years always had a way of reminding me of him. There was always a Sweaty Steve around. With harsh climate changes, more and more people suffer from excessive sweating. Uncomfortable and embarrassing as it may be, excessive sweating can be even worse for men. Contrary to most women, men tend to be hairier and therefore sweat more profusely. The Sweaty Steves of the world are sure to be thankful for ways to cope with their clamminess.
The first obvious thing to consider is body hair. Body hair varies in men; some are hairy, some are Cousin It. Techniques for hair removal are varied and can fit all sorts of budget. From laser hair removal to hair removal creams and waxing, the hairiest of men have a way to get rid of their body carpets. Second most important is clothing. Clothing, specially seasonal, can make a huge difference in the amount of sweat you generate. Choosing the right fabrics and colors, specially over the hotter seasons, can help you diminish sweat and conceal the inevitable moist. Always choose lighter colors and fabric that breaths (like natural cottons, for example) during the more warm parts of the year.
Now down to the direct deodorization tools, find a good deodorant. Most strong smell comes not from the sweat it self but from the contact with skin bacteria throughout the day. So a medicated strong deodorant can do the trick. Simply ask your doctor to prescribe a medicated deodorant and make sure to apply when needed, several times a day. You could also try the very effective and more comprehensive crystal rock stick, that you can use on the rest of your body as well, to prevent other sweaty areas from becoming moist.
Then there is routine. One important thing all machos out there ought to rethink is spicy food. No matter how many hot wings you say you can eat or how spicy you like your food, spicy foods make you sweat. A lot. Leave the hot wing contests for the weekend or times during which you don’t have to worry about armpit stains. Then, drink tons of cold water. Cold drinks in general help to lower your body temperature; hot drinks do not. So make a habit of carrying a cold bottle of water around to cool down in between meetings or while running errands.
Routine also means your habits around your schedule. Kill the last-minute rush and replace it with early arrivals. Since you are not literally running to your meeting, you won’t arrive all sweaty and agitated, you will have time to do last minute checks in the rest room and you will avoid post running stress sweat (your body continues generating sweat even hours after you are done with exercise).
Now that we are mentioning exercise, sweaty sex is an important topic. All generic Viagra and condoms set aside, some men worry about being way too sweaty, turning their date’s bedroom experience into a human slip-n-slide. Sweat can be very sexy and it even makes up for a lot of the chemistry going on between a couple before, during and after sex. However, taking extra precautions won’t hurt. Again, make sure to take a nice cold shower before your date, apply plenty deodorant before and after you go out and once you are getting it on, make sure to bring some water to your place of choice to play around. If at your place or somewhere you have control over, look for extra absorbent sheets, or even consider having a small towel handy to whipe extra moist places. She might even dig the whole slip-n-slide thing! After all, isn’t showering together a whole lot of fun?
