Understanding Jet Lag

Traveling for pleasure and fun is great. You anticipate reaching a new destination, packed with adventure a wonderful places about to be discovered. Because you are traveling from one time zone into another, your internal clock is suddenly shaken out of place. Finding the right time to go to the restroom, sleep or do whatever becomes an issue that can affect your health.

Every human being’s body follows a natural inner rhythm that is in sync with a person’s surroundings. Consequently, all bodily functions like sleeping or doing number two are accordingly coordinated to the night and day schedule of where and how you live. That natural time clock is what tells our body where it is and how things should be running. Temporarily disrupting the body’s regular biological rhythms caused by air travel through different time zones is what the dictionary commonly defines as jet lag.

A couple of hours will not affect your inner clock just yet. The true jet lag is experienced when time zone changes are significant. Most people recommend you sleep when it’s night and wake when it’s day, no matter what the time back home is. The first couple of days might make you look like a sleep-walking zombie, but once that ticker inside of you understands things have changed, you will be up and running around doing your thing.

You can prevent jet lag ahead of time through a little research. Find out the time difference at your destination and adjust your hours to that future schedule. The likelihood of killing your current lifestyle and routine is inevitable, but this will save you time when trying to adjust to the other country’s schedule.

Because you might be attending important meetings, you sure are a pillow away from a good rest. When in need for a refreshing nap, make that pillow time effective. Take short energizing naps that can get you through the day without keeping you away from the reality of your destination. Your body still needs to know it is daytime, so short naps – instead of a full day’s sleep-a-thon – will help you cope with the inner zombie trying to keep you in bed.

At the same time you are dealing with your sleeping hours, make room for some sunlight. As to tell your body what time of day it is and what activity level it should have, get your fair share of sunlight exposure. Walk around and get your body to tell apart day and night. After all, it is the retina that tells the brain what time it is and consequently what should be going on with your body. After all, you need to be well adjusted and rested to take that generic Viagra of yours on time, right?
